about

Slyly nodding towards the posts that became almost farcically prevalent on social media throughout 2020 and 2021, The Event Has Been Cancelled reflects the backdrop of our existence as musicians these past two years. AHHA was formed in late 2019 as a trio, performing only two shows before COVID crushed the burgeoning plans of our young group. With an added member and new resolve, we went to ground to cultivate our approach, workshopping new pieces on a weekly basis in our old rehearsal studio in Charlestown. In a time of great psychic stress and uncertainty, our rehearsals functioned as a salve, providing the closest facsimile of “creative expression” that we could hope for until the world was able to open up.

Like so many projects in the COVID era, this, too, went through a series of fits and starts: rehearsals in October 2020; an initial studio booking for January 2021 (postponed to June); and the trials of working on the mixing and release of an album over Zoom with our drummer in Athens, Georgia, and the rest of us in Boston.

When we conceived of this project, our aim was clear: write, record, and release an album of the kind of work that is so dear to us, born of our unique creative process. We feel that we have succeeded in this task, and it is now in the hands (or rather, ears) of each listener to decide for themselves. Our individual styles and approaches to writing are varied, but hopefully the throughlines which we all feel are apparent to each of you. We now enter our next stage, with our band members dispersed equally between northern and southern states, and our recording and performing future unclear. This album serves as a document, a testament of what we have been through together thus far, and perhaps a taste of what is yet to come.

about

AHHA Cambridge, Massachusetts

AHHA is a Boston-based quartet comprised of drummer Alex Dillon, guitarist Hayes Cummings, saxophonist Hunter McKay, and guitarist Aaron Clarke. We find ourselves gravitating to a primal, intense interpretation of music in a jazz/hard-rock landscape. Drawing inspiration from a diverse array of styles, our goal is to present a music which is equal parts chaotic, fun, and artistically satisfying. ... more
